It’s no secret that the motoring legends of the illustrious sports car industry are moving with the times, by introducing their own model of hybrid sports car. Worldwide, fuel efficient vehicles are taking center stage, while only those living a more luxurious lifestyle; contemplate the hybrid sports car.
Reportedly, Toyota first led the way onto the hybrid sports car platform, advancing with the “Prius” where, due its success, the way was paved for them to develop their hybrid sports car range; including the announcement of the “Priapus” believed to reach 60mph from a stop in just over 4 seconds. Sleek and slim-lined, it’s very much a hybrid sports car.
Certainly, flashier brands like Subaru and Mazda are not far behind, with contributions to the hybrid sports car; leaving a significant mark on the motoring world. The Mazda ‘Miata’ incorporates some of the world’s most state of the art technology; elevating its engine to include Japanese hybrid systems in transmission and other areas, eliminating idle time, while performance and efficiency remain standard.
Subaru, on the other hand, with its B9 SC “Scrambler” has evolved all wheel drive systems, good in the sense, that Subaru is a classic rally car. As it produces its own hybrid sports car models, Subaru is leading the way with its lithium ion batteries and other components for the hybrid sports car.
Indeed, Honda and Toyota still compete with the bigger name brands. With the Mazda MR2 and Honda CRZ as classic examples that manufactures are taking the hybrid sports car infrastructure and running with it.
As for 2009, while SUV’s are still a popular option, the emphasis is definitely on cost effectiveness and although not everybody will have a hybrid sports car in their drive, they are likely to have a hybrid model of some description.
